When I ordered these $16 Walmart cargo pants, I had absolutely no idea they would go on to make me over $6,256.
I wasn’t trying to create some viral campaign. I wasn’t working with Walmart. I simply found something I genuinely liked, shared it with my audience, and paid attention to what happened next.
That’s exactly what affiliate marketing has taught me over the years.
Sometimes your biggest winners aren’t expensive products. They’re the affordable items that solve a problem or get people excited.
In this post, I’m sharing exactly how one pair of Walmart cargo pants turned into thousands of dollars in affiliate income, and more importantly, the strategy behind it so you can apply it to your own content.

The First Video Made Almost $1,000
When the package arrived, I didn’t even try the pants on.
I simply stood in front of my mirror and told my audience that Walmart had camo cargo pants in stock. That was it.
No styling.
No fancy transitions.
No detailed review.
Just me sharing something I thought people would like.
That simple video earned $996.89 in affiliate commissions.
That was my first clue that people were interested.
I Let My Analytics Tell Me What To Do Next
One mistake I see creators make all the time is posting something once and immediately moving on.
I do the opposite.
When I see something performing well, I lean into it.
Since people were clearly interested in these pants, I decided to actually try them on.
I wasn’t even dressed to create content.
I threw them on with a cropped graphic tee from SHEIN, no shoes, and hit record.
That simple try-on video generated another $1,388.65.
At that point, I knew these pants deserved more content.
I Didn’t Create One Piece of Content, I Created a Content Series
Instead of searching for another product to promote, I kept using the same pants.
Here’s what I created over time:
- Mirror try-on video
- Styled outfit reel
- Outfit photo
- Outfit of the day
- Different shirt combinations
- Jersey outfit
- Baseball tee outfit
- Football jersey outfit
- Holding the pants up in a quick video
- Lifestyle content featuring the pants
Every time I wore them, I created another piece of content.
Some posts made hundreds of dollars.
Some made only a few dollars.
But together, they added up to over $6,256.12.
That’s the power of content repurposing.
Results Disclaimer: The income shared in this post reflects my personal experience and the results I achieved through my own content, audience, consistency, and marketing efforts. These results are not typical or guaranteed, and your results may vary. Affiliate marketing income depends on many factors, including your niche, audience, content strategy, consistency, and the amount of work you put in. I share my numbers for educational and inspirational purposes to show what’s possible, not to promise you’ll earn the same amount.
Videos Outperformed Photos
One thing I noticed while looking through my analytics was that reels consistently outperformed photos.
For example:
- One outfit photo earned $49.89
- Another photo earned $19.38
Meanwhile, reels were earning:
- $666.16
- $1,164.97
- $295.54
- $172.76
That doesn’t mean photos don’t matter.
It simply showed me where I should spend most of my time.
I always let my analytics guide my content strategy instead of guessing.
The Simple System I Use Every Time I Buy Something
One of the biggest questions I get is:
“How do you come up with so much content from one product?”
The truth is, I don’t reinvent the wheel every time I buy something.
I follow the same simple process over and over again.
Whether I’m buying a pair of Walmart cargo pants, sneakers, a handbag, or even a basic white T-shirt, I already know exactly what content I’m going to create before I even open the package.
That’s one of the biggest reasons I’m able to get so much mileage out of a single purchase.
Instead of creating one post and moving on, I turn one product into multiple opportunities to reach new people, earn affiliate commissions, and keep my content working long after I hit publish.
I call this The Content to Commission Method, my simple five-step workflow for turning one purchase into weeks of content.
Rather than guessing what to post next, I follow the same repeatable process every single time.
If you’d like to steal my exact workflow, I’ve put it together in a one-page guide that you can start using immediately.
Why I Always Check Inventory
I also pay close attention to whether an item is still available.
If something sells out, I stop making it the focus of my content.
I want my audience to trust that when I recommend something, they can actually buy it.
I never want to become known as the creator who only shares sold-out products.
Instead, I want people to think:
“If Nicki shares it, I should probably go grab it while it’s still available.”
That trust is worth more than any single commission.
My Biggest Takeaway
This experience reminded me that affiliate marketing isn’t about constantly buying new things.
It’s about getting the most value out of the things you already own.
One product can become:
- an unboxing
- a try-on
- multiple outfit reels
- photos
- Pinterest pins
- a YouTube video
- a blog post
- email content
- Facebook posts
One purchase can fuel weeks of content.
That’s exactly what these Walmart cargo pants did for me.

Keep Creating, Keep Testing
One of the biggest reasons these Walmart cargo pants earned over $6,000 wasn’t because they were expensive or because they went viral overnight.
It was because I paid attention.
I watched my analytics.
I noticed what my audience loved.
Then I continued creating content around a product that was already working.
You don’t need hundreds of products to become successful with affiliate marketing.
Sometimes all it takes is one great product, a simple content system, and the consistency to keep showing up.
